How to develop perseverance in study?
Perseverance means to carry on efforts in doing something
till success is achieved despite difficulty or delay in achieving success or
failure in examination. It is the most important element for success in
any sphere of life. Some students study their books for one day and close them
for few days and then again start study after two or three days. It is a bad
habit. If you want to be a successful student, you should study daily. Study
with gaps of days not only wastes time but also creates complications in
learning.
Perseverance helps students in two ways:
1. It saves your time and helps you complete the syllabus in time.
As a result, your work doesn’t become a burden for you.
2. If you study a topic today and study the next topic tomorrow,
you have fresh idea from previous topic which helps in learning the next
topic easily.
How to develop the habit of perseverance for study?
1. Consider at what time you
are at your best. Then plan to study at this time when you will be most
productive.
2. Never study more than your stamina especially on the first day
if you are newly starting. Too much study may disturb your perseverance
and you may fall sick. Increase your
study slowly and gradually.
3. If you feel some difficulty in learning, don’t be disheartened,
read your lesson again and again and try to learn. If still there is problem, contact
your teacher at school. But never decide at first glance that it is difficult
which compels you to close book.
4. Take short breaks in long study. Doing so you
will not lose interest in your study.
5. Take your study seriously. Say to yourself that you have to
prepare your subjects for exams and it is only possible if you study
with perseverance.
6. Avoid the useless activities like playing games or chatting or
texting on mobile phone that waste much of your time.
7. Try to develop and stick to
a regular study routine which helps prevent procrastination.
(Procrastination: It is the practice of carrying out less urgent
tasks instead of more urgent ones, thus putting off impending (about to happen)
tasks to a later time.)
8. Avoid being a perfectionist
– if something does not work, start again, see what went wrong and approach it
differently.
